A Rare Early Georgian Antique Pine Astral Glazed Barrel Back 2 Piece Cabinet. This cabinet is in good condition. We have professionally stripped and restored it and then waxed it in a lovely antique brown bri wax giving it a stunning patina. The cabinet would look well in an old or modern property in the corner of any downstairs room for any type of storage purpose. It would look particularly well in a living room doubled up as a drinks cabinet. The cabinet stands on a square plinth supporting the main section. There are two large doors to the bottom the doors have a lovely georgian moulding round the panel. There is a key that locks the doors. There is a shelf behind the doors for storage. The top sits neatly upon the base havinf two astral glazed doors. There is a brass closing fixture that locks it. Behind the door there are two shelves that are beautifully scrolled. The top has a georgian castle type scrolled cornice. The height is 197cm, the width is 45cm and the depth is 120cm. It is simple’we deliver everything personally in England/Wales. This way we are 100% sure that your item/furniture reaches you safe and sound. We NEVER use couriers. Myself or my brother deliver your item to you as one of us needs to stay in the showroom therefore we do require assistance from the van into your hallway. Rare early Buffet Clarinet for restoration. This instrument has an integral barrel or long top joint if you prefer to call it that.. Small crack to bell (see picture) otherwise no damage. The pipe tomahawk is in excellent condition with no repairs or damage. Spontoon style head patterned after the pike heads of the Spanish Conquistadors and explorers. Nice head forged from the barrel of a gun. Octagonal barrel and rifling inside. Looking closely, you will see the seam where the hardened bit was forged in to the shoulder of the tomahawk, commonly called a lap weld or lap seam. A good sign of authenticity and age. Walnut wood haft is original to the head. The brass tacks are original old square shank tacks. All along the haft are many ceremonial file branding marks made by placing a file or rasp in the fire until it was bright red and then burning the file into the haft. This was done for aesthetic “looks” and ceremonial purposes. There is a drilled hole for attaching drops or beads. The head is ever so slightly loose, the result of the wood drying and shrinking over the course of 170 years. A hide or leather gasket is seen between the eye and head. VERY NICE patina all over, really shows its age! The unusual style head is very desirable. Conservatively dated to 1780 but may be earlier. The haft of the tomahawk is measuring 21.5″ long and the head is measuring about 8.5″ long. Please ask any questions you may have. Thank you so much for looking! Early 20th Century rare Howard and Sons barrel back armchair. The chair has the makers stamp on one back leg and all four casters. It has been stripped of its old upholstery to reveal an excellent frame in good condition. We can upholster this in the fabric of your choice at additional cost, please get in touch for more details. 121cm high, 79cm wide and 88cm deep. The seat depth is 60cm and and seat height is 53cm. The name Howard and Sons is probably one of the best known and highly sought after names in upholstered antique furniture. The company was started by John Howard in 1820 trading from 24 Leman St, London as a cabinet maker. Over the next 25 years they would make several changes of premises within the Whitechapel area first to 27 Great Alie St. Now just Alie St. Before moving a short distance to 34 Great Alie St. In 1844 the company made its first venture into upholstered antique furniture by opening a showroom/workshop at 36 Red Lion St. Their next move in 1848 was to their most famous location, Berners St, London which was named John Howard and Sons, Cabinet maker, upholsterer and decorator. The business seemed to boom from this location with workshops opening at Tottenham St, Charlotte Mews and Fitzroy Square plus expansion into a second building on Berners St in 1853. In 1869 the company consolidated its many workshops into one building on Cleveland St and by 1872 the company was occupying 25, 26 and 27 Berners St. These addresses remained unchanged until 1935. During this period of time they became a limited company in 1899 and won the first of their Royal Warrants in 1901.
