And rare high grade solid silver snuff box of oval curved form with an embossed fluted decorated lid and reeded body. The lid has a central cartouche with the engraved initials “GK”. Rich silver-gilt (gold washed) interior. Tested as 900 (900/1000) or higher solid silver fineness. Rare French hallmarks, Minerva head with letter “C”, a very unusual double headed stamp, a makers mark and another swan or reversed “S” type stamp. In very good condition, no nasty dents, splits, holes, repairs. There is a couple of dints to the underside (please inspect end photograph). Hinge in good order, being strong and closing the lid securely, the decoration is in excellent condition and the interior silver-gilt is rich and bright. Late 18th, Early 19th Century. Made of Iron with a fruitwood base. In reality this dates to around 1770 and most likely made in France. Lovely patina and perfect to go with oak and country furniture. These type of candlesticks were used as a portable candlestick that could also be hooked onto an a beam in a barn for safety rather than risk falling over if simply stood on the floor or beam. Or used in mining, hence the origins of the name. The candle could be set low inside the spiral and ten screwed up as the candle burned down so as to reduce the risk of the candle falling out and causing a fire. Very simple but very clever invention. Height approx 19.5cm. Dia of base approx 9cm. Please be your judge on condition.

Micromosaic Feline – Rose & Yellow Low-Carat Gold Mounts. This elegant circular snuff box exemplifies the finest early 19th-century Italian craftsmanship. The lid is centered with a superb micromosaic plaque depicting a striding feline (possibly inspired by Roman antiquity models), executed in minute tesserae of remarkable precision. The animal is set against a pale ground with landscape foreground, displaying extraordinary detail in musculature, shading, and movement. The micromosaic is framed by a polished green hardstone border, likely serpentine, complementing the matching hardstone body of the box. The mounts are crafted in rose and yellow low-carat gold, typical of early 19th-century Italian workmanship, with a subtle warm patina consistent with age. Boxes of this quality were often produced in Rome for Grand Tour travelers and collectors of classical taste. Origin: Italy (likely Rome). Hardstone (green serpentine / verde antico type). Rose and yellow low-carat gold mountings. Technique: Fine Roman micromosaic. Micromosaic in very good antique condition. Minor age-related wear consistent with early 19th century pieces.
