A Rare and Special 16th Century French Renaissance Portrait of an Aristocrat or Courtier – Oil on Panel. A Very Fine Early French Portrait – Red Wax Collectors Seal Verso – Circle of Francois Clouet (1510 – 1572). Here we have an exceptional and thoroughly charming piece of history manifested in oil paint and wooden panel showing us a fine young gentleman from the late Elizabethan period albeit painted by a French artist extremely close in style to that of the celebrated French painter Clouet…. Francois Clouet was born in Tours although his father was a Dutch national and is particularly well known for his chalk drawing portrait of Mary Queen of Scots… Such is the style of the period in France in particular that a great many drawings and miniatures were accredited to Clouet but without absolute certainty… This exquisite picture falls into that category and has to be described as’school of’ Clouet for those reasons. A good deal is known about him and a fairly comprehensive account of his life and death and his exploits can be found in many volumes and of course Wikipedia offers a good account of the artist. Very finely detailed and typical of the era – a particular feature is the olive green background which appears in several of Clouet’s works – and painted directly onto a bevelled panel…… A red wax collectors seal is alos evident on the verso. This size of portrait was designed to be portable and was probably commissioned for the wife or betrothed of the sitter to carry with her on her travels reminding her of the man in her life… Housed in a later frame but appropriate in style to the original period and suiting the composition very well indeed. RARE Antique 1882 Wanzer B Sewing Machine Canada Hand Cranked Early Canadian

Vintage Props, Unusual & Decorative Antiques. Here for sale is a fantastic antique sewing machine made by Canadian company Wanzer B. It is dated 1882 on the thread cover. As you can see from the photos it is in a poor condition but the needle does go up and down when using the hand cranked wheel. Very rare and early example. Etched on one side of the thread cover is the company logo and patent date 1883. Richard Mott Wanzer was born in September 1818 and was the responsible for producing the first sewing machine in Canada. The Wanzer B model was patented in 1883 and was available in Great Britain in 1884. This example is therefore very early. The Wanzer B is a hand cranked model with no gears and works on a triple action motion. The machine was awarded a gold medal at the international Health Exhibition held in 1884. Shows extensive signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Signs of rust and enamel peeling in places. This is a very old model and shows its age! Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior. Rare Early 19th Century Woolwork Sampler of a Seated Cat Dated 1831

Images of cats seem to be rarer than those of dogs. This is especially true in early needlework. In this large piece of woolwork, the stitcher created a picture of her striped cat sitting on a red, bun-footed footstool. The green ground around the cat harmonizes well with the elaborate rope-like border stitched in shades of rust, brown, cream and gray. There are two large motifs in leaf shape in the right and left corners of the composition. The cat itself is stitched in finer wool yarn than the background and the border. Part of its face and chest were stitched in a silky-finished floss. The stitcher used a heavy silk floss for her name and date: H. This places this fabulous piece of needlework in the era prior to those that became popular after Victoria took the British throne. It is housed in its original wood and gesso painted frame with a gilded slip and old, bubbled glass. The condition of the woolwork is excellent. There are no holes or staining. The color retention is phenomenal given the age of this embroidery. This must have been a cherished family piece that was kept in a room with few windows that kept the wool from fading. It appears to have been backed with a board at some time that helped keep the needlework free of dust and insects. The attractive frame is in excellent condition as well. I have had it professionally restored to bring it back to its former glory. This is an extraordinary and striking piece of early needlework, and as such, deserves a special place in ones collection. It measures 21-1/2 inches wide and 20-1/2 inches high, including the frame. Personal and cashiers checks also accepted. HERE IS AN BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE ORIGINAL PIECE OF QUACK MEDICINE HISTORY. ALBERT ABRAMS IS PERHAPS THE MOST FAMOUS INVENTOR OF QUACKERY. THIS OSCILLOCLAST WAS EVEN SUPPOSE TO CURE VANERIAL DISEASE. THE CABINET IS NEAR PERFECT WITH ONLY MINOR SCUFFS ETC. THE BOTTOM IS UNMARKED AND SHOWS NO WEAR.. THE TOP PLATE IS WONDERFUL. THE ORIGINAL FABRIC CORD IS FRAYED AND MISSING THE PLUG. THE TEST KNOBS ALL TURN WELL, BUT ONE ON THE FAR LEFT IS MISSING , IT IS IN SUPERB CONDITION. THE BOTTOM OF THE KNOBS IS TARRED INTERNALLY. BULB SCREWS INTO THE TOP PLATE, BUT NO FUNCTIONAL SOCKET IS PRESENT. WIRE IS PRESENT INSIDE BUT NO SOCKET. EASY REPLACEMENT FOR THE TWO MISSING PARTS. Serial # is an early make, U389. Ive not seen another like this & I cant find anything like it. Very interesting piece of early advertising in fabulous antique condition. Consists of a craved and paint decorated frame backed by a tin case where presumably a candle or gas light would back light the paper advertising in the frame. Bottom seems to have been removed as shown in photos, Im guessing to allow it to be used on an electric light. Measures about 17.25 tall, 14.75 wide and roughly 7-8 deep. Comes with paper ad as found. An interesting, collectible and functional piece of early advertising. Please get them approved before purchasing. Any questions must be answered before the sale. Some of the models for G&B SMC in the beginning has been silver plated by Domestic SMC in Buffalo NY and later they gradually began making the parts and a few years later to completely assemble machines for Grover. Even at that time consumers has been forced not to care how beautiful and gracefully curved like a swans those G & B machines are – the production cost and sale price has been deciding factor. Unfortunately today the major goal of our society is the constant pursue of lower cost and most of us have the unfortunate tendency to overlook or simply brush off such aspects as quality and aesthetics. So, let the truly exquisite appearance of this machine serve to us as a reminder of those unfortunately bygone era. All together Grover & Baker SMC for 22 years of existence has produced only. In the middle of 1860. Singer would do an unpredictable simply put all acquired perfectly functioning G&B machines under the press!!! The hundreds of thousand machines has been destroyed! How many has survived after these 150 years? And how many in great mechanical and cosmetic conditions? I bet much less than a one hundred! Over these years I have had 14! Almost all of 14 machines were not in the functioning but most of the time being completely frozen and some in very bad cosmetic condition. But over these 45+ years it was my true mission to return those rare truly Our American Heritage mechanical beauties to life. Please look at all these pictures attached – For being 148 years old this machine is absolutely beautiful! The machine has been completely taken apart , cleaned , adjusted and now turns and function correct and freely. Please note from the pics provided, that the most of gold painted motifs on the machines body and on cast iron stand did not survived, but could be visible at close observation only as the shadow and I have made the attempt to highlight those hardly visible shadow in order to bring it as close as possible to the original state. The cabinet’s drop leaf with swing support of extended table and beautiful 3 drawers rack has been taken apart , all bronze hinges has been removed cleaned and polished, all original screws has been polished. Each panel and all made out of solid black walnut wood table and base and drawers has been meticulously cleaned to remove oxidation and accumulation of dirt. I have hydrated wood parts with a lot of linseed oil to restore distressed wood and to reveal beautiful wood grain. Just look at the gorgeous selected grain wood panels – I think that the enjoyment a future owner would be happy to experience for the long period of time is justification for the huge amount of time and effort that has been spent on the restoration process. After completion of that extremely laborious process I have sealed the outer surfaces with mixture of polyurethane and oil to preserve the beauty of the wood grain and to prevent further moisture absorption, wood expansion and oxidation. S I have mentioned above , the most of the gold decorations on the machine’s body did not survived and I had to replace them. Those new decoration has been meticulously professionally re-created based on the original pattern that has been seen as a shadow. The oblong portrait of woman in the middle of the machines bed was also in the bad condition , so I have ordered the new decal of the same size and image to be. Made to replace the original one. The machine is sewing perfectly – see pic # 1 how the tremendous punching through power of this machine can effortlessly go through 4 layers of heavy laminated vinyl! Once The Harper’s Monthly Magazine in August 1861 has made the statement about G&B… Does not fail to excite your admiration for the beauty and uniformity. Is surely holds the truth even more now than 159 years ago. American Heritage functioning piece like this one does not present. And I still would continue to keep all of them and enjoy. Possible Spanish Boudoir Doll Made in Spain! Very unusual doll with stunning hand painted facial features. Believe her to be a Norah Wellings Doll from the 1930s. She measures 18 tall. Felted wool flowers in her dark braided hair and on her lovely rose colored shawl with silk fringe. Silk stockings and black felt high heel shoes. Her legs bend at the hips and her knees. She does have some moth damage to the under sides of her arms (shown in photos) but this is not noticeable with her shawl on. Row after row of ruffled organza make up the train on her dress. From a private collection, this doll does not become available very often. Please review all photos and ask questions and request more photos if needed.
