WONDERFUL EARLY & RARE’MORAVIAN’ RAG DOLL. Circa: EARLY 1900’S. This doll is from a smoke free home and has no odors. Here is a charming early cloth doll – made by the members of the Moravian Church. For price reference see page # 385 in the book,’Doll Values’ 13th Edition by Linda Edward. And page #26 & 27 in the book’Cloth Dolls’ From Ancient to Modern by Linda Edward. I sure wish that this “Polly Heckewelder” could tell us about her life. This doll does not have her two bonnets. There is a small tear on her left hand. Her facial painting is faded (but who wouldn’t be after all these years). Her clothes have a dirt accumulation but I think this adds to the doll. Her outfit originally was blue and white gingham. These dolls were first made by the Ladies Sewing Society of the Moravian Church Guild in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to raise funds for the aid of wounded Civil War soldiers. After the Civil War the funds were used to help former slaves. She is a terrific rare cloth doll with wonderful history. From my home to yours. Delivered right to your front door. This lovely 14 teddy has such a charming expression, and even with his mouth stitching gone he still appears to be smiling. He is an Omega teddy bear… A British firm that made quality teddies. Omega bears are very sought after and are quite rare to find. This bear would date to 1910’s / 20’s He has distinctive painted back glass eyes , and horizontal nose stitching. He needs a few extra stitches. He is wood wool stuffed throughout. All the felt pads are original and in excellent condition, just a little wear on the tips of feet pads, and he has card lined feet. All claw stitching is intact. He has lovely long arms, and big chunky thighs, and a small hump! There is a growler mechanism inside which no longer works, but just clunks and rattles around in his tummy. He has an unusual pale gold shiny mohair, which shows signs of wear and thinning in places. A wonderful bear from this sought after maker. Just needs a little tlc.
