RARE VIENNA SECESSIONIST MADONNA CHILD AND CHERUBIM GROUP by ANTON KLIEBER 1916
Posted by admin On February 3, 2024
A very rare Austrian secessionist movement figure group of a throned Madonna and child on a heavenly cloud with cherubim musicians in attendance. Impressed and signed to the reverse and beneath: Anton Klieber 1916. RARE VIENNA SECESSIONIST MADONNA CHILD AND CHERUBIM GROUP by ANTON KLIEBER 1916. AUSTRIAN SECESSIONIST BY ANTON KLIEBER. Fine Austrian Secessionist Figure Group “Madonna and Child” Vienna, Austria 1916. On offer here is this fine example of Austrian secessionist ceramic art hand painted and modeled by Anton Klieber, signed and dated 1916. Pirkenhammer 1886 – d. From 1901 to 1905, Anton Klieber attended the Royal School of Ceramics in Teplitz. He then studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts until 1909. The young Klieber’s talents were already recognised during his studies, such that immediately after graduating, Michael Powolny offered him a job at Wiener Keramik, a company he had recently established in partnership with Bertold Löffler. Then from circa 1913 Anton Klieber worked as a freelance sculptor in Vienna until after the First World War. Henceforth Klieber worked from 1926 for Keramos Wien, until in 1934 he joined the Central Association of Visual Artists and received several awards for his ceramics. Today, Anton Klieber’s works along with his contemporary artist colleagues of Powolny, Löffler and Peche are considered some of the most important, desirable and sought after by collectors worlwide. Depicted is a particularly charming rendition of a Madonna and Christ Child, the Madonna seated on an heavenly throne upon a cloud, she swaddling the child to her breast, under her voluminous robe. Amongst the clouds below are groups of cherubim playing musical instruments and an individual at left singing from a scroll. The facial features are subtle yet finely rendered and the raised decoration is finely hand painted in polychrome enamels. This particularly pleasing example is impressed to the rear of the throne; ANTON – KLIEBER – 1916 and bears further impressed markings to the underside including the number;’27-132-1′ with painter’s number;’3′ below, as well as a circular seal mark, presumably a factory or studio stamp. This delightful group is in excellent condition. There are no losses, scratches, cracks or repairs to report. X-RARE! Antique Old-English-Bulldog/Early-Boxer Vienna Bronze Figure/Figurine
Posted by admin On January 16, 2022
Antique Old-English-Bulldog/Early-Boxer Vienna Bronze Figure/Figurine. Extremely rare antique small bronze figure, depicting a realistic Old English Bulldog or Early Boxer with collar in a very unusual pose, playing with a stick. Well sculpted and detailed piece made of solid bronze. Unsigned or marked, but very probably made in Vienna, circa 1900. 2-½ inches (6.5 cm) long x 1-¾ inches (3 cm) height. Weight 4.76 Oz 135 gr. Was a dog breed, now extinct. It was taller and thinner than actual English Bulldog. In England, the passage of the “Cruelty to Animals Act 1835″ caused a decline of bull-baiting and dog fighting, although the activity, as well as cripple Bulldogs continued for many years. Somewhat worn with minor markings and scratches here and there. Bent up front left leg see pictures. Otherwise very fine to excellent overall condition with very nice natural bronze patina. Photos are part of description. Rest of the world. We do not sell reproductions or modern items. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Metalware\Other Collectible Metalware”. Final reduction before I decide to keep the item. The item will end in the next couple of days. A rare, early and genuine Bergmann Vienna Austrian cold painted bronze. Arab girl with stone pot, Urn, Ewer stamped with the Bergmann mark and model number 2897. This is an early piece produced c1900. The Roman numeral mark VIIII may indicate a production date of 1909. Stunning detail and casting quality which hopefully you can see in the detailed images. I have not seen another example of this rare version with the stone pot which really does make this a substantial piece. The detail and realism of the pot, wooden frame and rope is extremely. Very Early & Rare One Piece Dial Vienna Wall Clock
Posted by admin On February 28, 2021
Very Early & Rare One Piece Dial Vienna Wall Clock. Nice early and very rare one piece dial Vienna wall clock, these early examples are often referred to as’Biedermeier’. ? They were often made in Austria and not Germany and have much finer cases, which are more subtle and elegant and are certainly better constructed. The enamel dial is surrounded by a’pie crust’ cast bezel which is another early feature. The dial with nice fine hands is in very nice shape but there are a few scratches near the winding holes which are very hard to see. The movement is the lift on type, to the back plaque. The movement is clean with fine wheel work and dead beat? . The beat plaque is silvered brass which is a little faded. There is a key, weight and pendulum. The fine case looks like inlaid walnut? Which is faded in some areas (see photos) it has been in a direct sunlight. The fine crest at the top and bottom are in good condition. Early clocks like this have beautiful proportions and measures 40.5in tall (inc crest) x 11in wide x 4.75in deep. Please don’t confuse this early piece with the much inferior later German versions, this is a hard to find clock of some quality. It runs for 10-15mins then stops so would certainly benefit from a good clean and service. One side of the glass is missing on this excellent find. A nice little project that with a little work will run. Please see photos as it forms part of the description. Please note that I will only accept collection only on this item. Postal costs refer to UK mainland addresses. I do not sell reproduction items or copies, I also do not clean or restore my items but prefer to offer them in a genuinely sleepy state ready for professional restoration.
