Extremely rare pre First World War Steiff soldier. Painted hair, eyebrows and mouth. Dark blue felt long jacket with high red collar, epaulettes and 8 original 5mm Steiff buttons (2 missing) on front and 2 on coat tails. Fine leather shoes with felt under soles. Two silk additions in French flag colours on metallic flat cord, both hand sewn and hanging from original metallic braid shoulder straps. Chain around waist with remnants of braid and red felt where a sword hung. Stitching and braid remnants to palm of right hand suggests sword was attached to the hand at some point.
