Offered for sale is this stunning find. In its completely original untouched as found condition. Made of wood, which was ebonised and which still remains. Original tapetry top which look like it was some sort of velvet? Which has now worn and become threadbare in place as shown with use over many many years. No idea of the exact age of this beautiful old prayer stool, but I have spoken to a couple of experts and they said that they would date c 1800. It has wooden dowels to 2 sides instead of screws and the other side has two screws which must have been replaced sometime later. I looked up some information about dowels/pegs being used in furniture and it advised that Antique furniture construction, up to teh early 1700s was mainly built using pegged construction, but I will leave it to you experts out there to decide and inform. Measuring approx 12″ inches wide by 8.5/9″ tall by 8 deep. Please look carefully at photos as this forms part of the overall description. I have tried to take accurate photos that show the box as true as possible- please bare in mind that screen settings and different devices may show differently. RARE 10 LEGGED EARLY 20TH CENTURY NUPE STOOL. Bought at the great flea market of Port de Clignancourt in Paris, I’ve had this little beastie for twenty-odd years now. Clearly a very old example, this one bears it’s ancient termite scars proudly. Some residual and very old cream and green paint to be found here and there. Someone bashed a few steel nails in it long before it came to me. It’s old, it’s real, it’s firm and healthy, it has immense character and despite its looks, it won’t run away. A wonderful antique carved’Nupe’ or’Spider’ stool. A genuine early example of traditional African craftsmanship, caved from a single lump of African harwood, the stool is raised on seven tapering legs. The top is beautifully docorated with traditional Nupe geometric carvings & has the most beautiful depth of colour with a wonderful patina. W: 45.5cm (17.9). D: 46.5cm (18.3). Wear commensurate with age, good overall. An antique rather than a cheap tourist piece & came from an amazing collection of early tribal art, both the top & one of the legs show signs of old repairs to cracks which do notghing to detract. RARE Africian Agba Stool Kingdom of Benin Edo Nigeria early 20thC Carved Teak
RARE Africian Agba Stool Kingdom of Benin Edo Peoples of Nigeria early 20th Century beautifully Carved made from what looks like Teak wood. It measures 24″ long by 11″ wide by 19 tall. These stools were usually produced by carvers in Omada, the association of young men who served the Oba as palace pages and sword bearers and who carved in their spare time. The tops and legs tend to be intricately carved with scenes from Benin history, palace ceremonies and traditional Benin motifs. Two examples from the second half of the 19th century are in the Perls collection in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This top of this stool depicts a ceremony with Oba and two other dignitaries signing some inportant agreement or treaty and dates from the early to mid 20th Century. A Rare Africian tribal piece most of these are found in. In Good condition very sturdy. Will post world wide. It has the carved signature mouse to the front left leg. The burr oak adds immense value to the stool, Mouseman pieces with burr are very highly collectable and sought after. The condition of the stool is excellent, it has no damage. It is a solid, well made stool, suitable for occasional or even daily use. As you would expect with Mouseman hand carved pieces of furniture it is excellent quality. It measures 40cm height, 45cm width, and 32cm depth. All in all, it’s a stunning stool that has everything going for it, burr oak, age, really great patina, and a well carved old mouse, a beautifully made piece of early Mouseman furniture dating from the 1930s. RARE EARLY BURR OAK ROBERT MOUSEMAN THOMPSON STOOL c1930. An early Robert Mouseman Thompson stool with rare curved burr oak seat, raised on four faceted octagonal turned legs. It has the carved signature mouse to the front left leg. The burr oak adds immense value to the stool, Mouseman pieces with burr are very highly collectable and sought after. The condition of the stool is excellent, it has no damage. It is a solid, well made stool, suitable for occasional or even daily use. As you would expect with Mouseman hand carved pieces of furniture it is excellent quality. It measures 40cm height, 45cm width, and 32cm depth. All in all, it’s a stunning stool that has everything going for it, burr oak, age, really great patina, and a well carved old mouse, a beautifully made piece of early Mouseman furniture dating from the 1930s.
