Rare Antique AAFA Early Folk Art Wood Rocking Horse Paint Decorated Crates

What a unique piece this piece was found in an old Barn In beautiful Pennsylvania. The rocking horse is in great condition with no damage but the horse does exhibit some minimal ware. The horse measures 34 1/2 long by 12 wide by 20 tall. The horse is one of a kind and was hand made of old wooden crates with nails and flat head screws along time ago this is a beautiful piece suitable for any antique collection. Rare Early Antique Fh Ayres Turned Head Extra Carved Rocking Horse Circa 1880

Sadly having to part with my beloved rocking-horse. Over twenty years with me. Extensive and painstaking restoration has revealed what is left of the original paintwork, with wonderful patination to the neck where years of childrens hands have rubbed. Some original leatherwork remains, but most is antiqued replacement, very sympathetically done. Most of one ear is missing, but was done such a long time ago I decided to leave it alone rather than have it cut about. Made by FH Ayres, the most sought after maker, and is without doubt one of the very first swing stand horses ever made. The horse has a lovely turn to the head. 40 inches to highest part of neck. Would be classed as a medium sized horse. Stand has replacement posts and cross-braces, the rest is original, along with the beautifully carved runner ends. Horse would have had saddle pommels, but I did not bother to replace these. Please note this is an ANTIQUE and piece of objet d’art, NOT a TOY. The photos don’t do it justice at all. Price is not negotiable. We are located in Norfolk, not far from Banham Zoo. +++I will be out of signal & unable to respond to any questions between Thursday 19th – Saturday 21st December. Set of Rare and Early Georgian Period Toy horses x 4 – suit rocking horse / antique toy collector display. Thought to be from the Georgian period and very possibly of solid body construction as per the Georgian rocking horses of this time. Wood & gesso with a gorgeous deep yellow patina to the shellac on all 4 of them. I just love the naiveness & simplicity these beautiful toys present. Dear little faces & outstretched legs typical of the period. They possibly could have started life on a platform as there is evidence of little stubs under some of the hooves. They are in overall good condition considering their age – albeit one or two slightly loose muscle blocks to inside under chest & some missing gesso & paint / loose harness in areas (can be reattached with care). Two of the horses come plain & two come harnessed – please see photos for their condition & the attention to detail on the harness which I find incredible. Each of the 4 horses is approx 14″ long by 10″ high. These are the only examples of toy horses in this Georgian style I have experienced or seen – after widely searching the web for similar & finding none. They are looking for an appreciative home to a new owner who appreciates their simplicity & English toy history. Thankyou for offers – but this is the price. Collection in person also welcome. Rare Early antique bow rocking horse from Scottish Castle with provenance

Rare large Antique Rocking Horse on Bow Rocker with Scottish Castle provenance… Circa 1830 – 1860. This beautiful large antique bow rocking horse who previously resided in one of Scotlands well known castles & comes with genuine provenance, is now looking for a loving appreciative home. Refurbished many years ago whilst still resident at Cassilli House Castle in Scotland where the Kennedy family moved to from their previous residence’Culzean Castle’ which they had handed to the Scottish national trust in 1946, Reckless underwent a more recent restoration a few years ago by Jan Rusling to include conservation of his original bow & replacement ears. He was repainted to a more authentic pattern of his period & given a beautiful horsehair mane & tail. His old saddlery & components that he came with from Cassilli house have been kept safe and will come with him to his new owner, as is all part of his history. Being the very old horse that he is (approx Circa 1830 – 1860) his bow rocks with a wobble and he has age related / wood movement cracks including around where his legs meet his body hence he has some areas of paint loss. This is all part & parcel of how wood reacts to its environment & also in reckless’s case his age. This has not been an issue to his appreciative collector as he is considered retired and has been appreciated purely as an interior piece of beauty, uniqueness & British history. His new owner will need to be understanding & appreciate that this is his nature. If you want absolute perfection he is not for you! He stands approx 47/48 high his bow length will be added.
