A early Tunbridge ware Campaign style Mirror, with a push fit cover. It is decorated with a hand painted faux rosewood and dash border around a hand coloured print of the Royal Pavillion Brighton. It was made using a lathe and includes a turned moulded border, which helps with hand grip when removing the top from its base. It has a replacement brass loop ring for holding or wall hanging and measures approx 4 7/8″ or 12.5 cm wide x 7/8″ or 23 mm deep. It dates to the Georgian/Regency period and has a good aged patina. Important Japanese complete antique woodblock print map of view of Yokohama, 1861. Hard to find view and map This is one of the earliest maps of Yokohama harbor depicting American, British, Russian and European foreign trade ships, and western merchant visitation buildings of the area known as Gankiro which was restricted and had limited access. The port of Yokohama was surrounded by water to keep foreigners off the Tokaido Road, which was nearby and very dangerous since Samurai often used it to travel to Edo (now the capital of Tokyo). The Shogun also wanted to limit the contact between foreigners and the Japanese people. Beautiful woodblock printed quality, printed on two sheets, immediately frame able.
