RARE EARLY 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN FOLK ART , NEW ENGLAND PRIMITIVE ANTIQUE 1826 HAND PAINTED LEATHER F I R E B U C K E T , w i t h I N I T I A L S R. Featuring GOLD GILT D E C O R A T I V E E N A M E L P A I N T over DARK GREEN FIELD & H A N D D E C O R A T E D DIAGONAL BANNER & HEAVY C O R D S E W N L E A T H E R SIDEWALLS, BASEPLATE & BULBOUS, CUPPED BUCKET UPPER RIM. [Recently discovered in southern New Hampshire in an early post and beam farmhouse on what was once a large, working farm, with various barns & horse stalls]. Early 19th century Ame ri can folk art, New England primitive antique, hand decorated, painted, sewn heavy leather fire buckets. 12 ¼” Height x 8″ top Width x 6 ¼ Base. Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely wonderful and just recently discovered in southern New Hampshire, hand decorated, hand sewn heavy leather upright fire bucket, featuring gold gilt enamel paint over an emerald green painted field, with’No. 2′ hand painted along the top margin, signifying which firefighting pump or ladder truck it was associated with and belonged to. The date of its realization is hand painted along the lower margins’1826. There’s some slight to moderate gold gilt enamel loss only in this area contained within the banner. The heavy sewn leather seams are still incredibly intact and complete, with no thread loss. The leather sidewalls aren’t distorted or deformed. The bucket is now missing its original leather wrapped carrying handle, which had broken free of the leather side hoops. A beautiful, original, unadulterated antique piece of Ame ric ana. Found in southern New Hampshire. The fire bucket hasn’t been touched. It remains as it was when it was removed from the estate it was originally discovered in and to which it was associated with for many, many years. Thrilling and a summation of why those of us who do this, do this. An absolutely thrilling and exhilarating discovery. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. [Found in southern New Hampshire and most likely an early New Hampshire paint decorated pine box and not an early Maine paint decorated pine box, due to the delicate & fine nature of its paint decoration & refined features]. Early to mid 19th century New Hampshire paint decorated, early pine wooden boxes, trunks & other decorative wooden accessories. 13 1/4″ Width x 8 1/4″ Depth x 6 Height. Estate fresh and in simply extraordinary condition. Early New England, antique hand decorated, painted wooden pine boxes don’t come much better than this. Estate fresh, 100%, absolutely untouched and as it was when it was discovered in the early post and beam southern New Hampshire estate it was removed from. According to family sources, this and many of the other antique items found in the same home, were there for as long as any of the descendants could remember. The pine box features old ox blood, chalky red painted exterior finish, featuring combed, squiggly charcoal black decorated, repeating motif, with original rear, early wire lid hinges and original front lock assembly, with black enamel painted cut, flat stock tin key escutcheon. A simply extraordinary early New England primitive painted artifact in just gorgeous paint. Most likely made in New Hampshire between 1825 to 1850. Probably a New Hampshire hand decorated, painted early pine box and not a Maine one, due to the delicate, dainty quality of the paint decoration and refined form of the diminutive box. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. Only the left interior pine wooden lid slat’hold’ was snapped off at its mid-section at some previous juncture in time. Nothing has been done to the box to remedy this isolated damage to the box, which is now anywhere from 175 to nearly 200 years old. A truly exceptional, extraordinary New England primitive and early Ame ri can antique. Perhaps for those who truly understand the distinct and clear difference between a Datsun and a Lexus or between a Volkswagon and a Porsche, if you prefer the Ger ma ny analogy over the Jap an ese one. VERY RARE EARLY 20TH CENTURY JOHN WRIGHT (PENNSYLVANIA) 1930’S, AME RI CAN VINTAGE CAST IRON RED ENAMEL PAINTED BEARDED DEVIL, HOLDING 3-PRONGED SPEAR, with CURLED FEET & LONG HOOKED TAIL CHIMNEY DAMPER PULL, STAMPED J. (JOHN WRIGHT) on EACH FOOT, RESPECTIVELY. [Original linked metal chain not included]. Early 20th century Ame ri can vintage decorative cast iron painted chimney damper pulls. 9″ Height x 3 14″ Width. Weight: 9.8 oz. Offered for your review and consideration is this very rare and now quite scarce original, authentic, early 20th century, John Wright (Pennsylvania) vintage, signed red enamel painted cast iron chimney damper pull, featuring the image of a horned, long bearded devil, holding a three-pronged spear with a long, hooked tail and curled feet. The paint’s original to the piece and is first generation. All the surfaces on both sides of the flat, bas-relief painted figure are original and don’t have any enhancements or in-painting’ old or new. There are a few very small nicks in the red enamel painted finish, mostly found on the edges of the cast iron form and which are testament and evidence of its vintage pedigree. It was realized in the 1930’s by the John Wright Company of Pennsylvania and they would have been attached with a linked chain through the hole found in between the middle and left prong of the devil’s spear. The user would have pulled the devil figure down at the curled feet, opening the hinged damper valve inside the stack of the chimney. A chimney pull even the Devil himself would be proud of. EARLY to MID 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE AME RI CAN LARGE 9 HAND PAINTED, DECORATED TIN TOLEWARE BOX, with DOME LID, LOOPED. WIRE LID PULL & FULL FRONT. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique decorated toleware boxes & decorative accessories. 5 34″ Height x 8 34 ” Width x 4 34 Depth. Weight: 14.2 oz. For sale is this quite nice and quite well-preserved early to mid-19th century Ame ri can antique decorated toleware tin lidded box, with looped wire lid pull and intact front tin clasp assembly. The tin was recently discovered here in southern New Hampshire and remains in’as-found,’ untouched and undisturbed original antique condition. There’s some expected slight, very minor scuffs and/or abrasions to the tin’s surface, where there are only very minor dots of interruptions to the mainly black paint. The hand painted floral motif in orange and green over gold or what was once putty white however, is largely and thankfully mostly intact. The tin itself doesn’t suffer from any significant dings, dents or deformities. The tin dome lidded box is complete, with all of its original component parts. It’s rare to find these scarce, hard-to-find early tin toleware boxes in this kind of untouched condition, with frankly this much paint on them and with only some minor spots of missing black enamel paint. Often they’re in-painted or entirely repainted, destroying their antique pedigree and authenticity and forever altering their original surfaces. This one clearly, fortunately escaped the trials and tribulations of life and the merciless, unsympathetic machinations of time. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. No attempt has been made to repair,’in-paint’ or to conceal any of the very minor damage or tiny spots of loss of principally black enamel paint. This early to mid-19th century hand decorated antique Ame ri can tin toleware box is in absolutely, 100% untouched, undisturbed, original antique condition. The item “EARLY-MID 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE HND PNTD DEC TOLEWARE TIN BOX/LATCH/WIRE PULL” is in sale since Thursday, December 3, 2020.
