Antique early Victorian period elm chest of drawers This rare piece of country furniture has the most wonderful glow and fantastic grain you get from elm wood Not much on it is perfectly square, the top is not flat and some of the drawer fronts lean outwards but this just adds to the charm Various repairs have been carried out over the years, none can be seen to spoil the look It has been a victim of wood worm in the past, we have fully treated it again, the side and back edge of the top in particular The legs have been shortened by an inch to make them firm The drawers have locks bar one, none with keys There are 8 original beautifully turned drawer knobs This chest of drawers is a one-off item, a lovely old colour and full of character (see photos) As well as the description we have taken 12 pictures, please look through them in detail. RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN ANTIQUE DECORATED WOODEN SPINNING TOP, W/ORIGINAL, PERIOD GREEN & RED STRIPES. New England 19th c decorated artifacts. 6″ Height x 3 ½” Width. Offered for your careful review and consideration is this incredibly rare and absolutely beautiful early to mid 19th century American, antique, hand decorated, painted wooden spinning top, with green and red hand painted stripes over yellow. The wooden top is hand carved and the central wooden top stem, which spools the cord used to pull the top and spin it, is notched to accept the cord and is painted red, with green and yellow stripes. The body of the top is painted differently than the stem, with yellow paint being the base color, instead of red and with green and red hand painted stripes. There’s what appears to be a remnant of a wound cotton cord pull string still tied and knotted to the wooden stem. The top has some minor material loss at the extreme bottom of the top, with some wood loss and now missing what would have been an inserted metal pin or nail, on which the top would have quickly spun. This loss demonstrates prior use and gives the top its honest, vintage pedigree. The top is absolutely 100% untouched and hasn’t been rinsed, oiled or cleaned. A remarkable 19th century artifact. You will spend many a moon looking for another like it. Incredibly rare and a wonderful example of early American painted wooden ware and cultural artifacts. From early New England with love. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. As mentioned previously, there’s some minor wood loss and the apparent loss of a nail or metal fastener, that would’ve been inserted into the tapered end of the top’s bottom, allowing it to spin freely on a wood floor when the string was pulled. The body is however, absent of fractures or noticeable flea-bites to its edges. There are a few minor scuffs and faint abrasions to its painted sidewalls. The top hasn’t been wiped down, washed, rinsed or oiled. It demonstrates prior use and what would have to be considered to be gentle or infrequent use, considering its overall well preserved condition. A truly remarkable, unmolested early 19th century New England artifact. Tiny hairline on the right side of the forehead, it is invisible to the naked eye, see photo. Beautiful expression of the face, closed mouth, beautiful blue eyes very clear fixed enamel, pierced ears. The head is marked on the back engraved at the top of the skull 3. Bisque pressed collar in perfect condition, no hairline no restoration. Antique wig in natural hair reported. Original body in skin entirely with gussets, fingers of the hands separate. There are pieces of tape on the wrists and on one foot to prevent sawdust from leaving. This Barrois fashion doll is dressed in an antique two-piece outfit (jacket that closes with all its hooks and in her blue checkered dress) and a superb blue silk hat with lace and a sock. Set of Rare and Early Georgian Period Toy horses x 4 – suit rocking horse / antique toy collector display. Thought to be from the Georgian period and very possibly of solid body construction as per the Georgian rocking horses of this time. Wood & gesso with a gorgeous deep yellow patina to the shellac on all 4 of them. I just love the naiveness & simplicity these beautiful toys present. Dear little faces & outstretched legs typical of the period. They possibly could have started life on a platform as there is evidence of little stubs under some of the hooves. They are in overall good condition considering their age – albeit one or two slightly loose muscle blocks to inside under chest & some missing gesso & paint / loose harness in areas (can be reattached with care). Two of the horses come plain & two come harnessed – please see photos for their condition & the attention to detail on the harness which I find incredible. Each of the 4 horses is approx 14″ long by 10″ high. These are the only examples of toy horses in this Georgian style I have experienced or seen – after widely searching the web for similar & finding none. They are looking for an appreciative home to a new owner who appreciates their simplicity & English toy history. Thankyou for offers – but this is the price. Collection in person also welcome. Set of Rare and Early Georgian Period Toy horses x 4 – suit rocking horse / antique toy collector display. Thought to be from the Georgian period and very possibly of solid body construction as per the Georgian rocking horses of this time. Wood & gesso with a gorgeous deep yellow patina to the shellac on all 4 of them. I just love the naiveness & simplicity these beautiful toys present. Dear little faces & outstretched legs typical of the period. They possibly could have started life on a platform as there is evidence of little stubs under some of the hooves. They are in overall good condition considering their age – albeit one or two slightly loose muscle blocks to inside under chest & some missing gesso & paint / loose harness in areas (can be reattached with care). Two of the horses come plain & two come harnessed – please see photos for their condition & the attention to detail on the harness which I find incredible. Each of the 4 horses is approx 14″ long by 10″ high. These are the only examples of toy horses in this Georgian style I have experienced or seen – after widely searching the web for similar & finding none. They are looking for an appreciative home to a new owner who appreciates their simplicity & English toy history. Collection in person also welcome.
