RARE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN PHARAONIC KING ANTIQUE ANUBIS Lord of Mummification Stella. The mummification process took seventy days. Special priests worked as embalmers, treating and wrapping the body. Beyond knowing the correct rituals and prayers to be performed at various stages, the priests also needed a detailed knowledge of human anatomy. The first step in the process was the removal of all internal parts that might decay rapidly. The brain was removed by carefully inserting special hooked instruments up through the nostrils in order to pull out bits of brain tissue. It was a delicate operation, one which could easily disfigure the face. The embalmers then removed the organs of the abdomen and chest through a cut usually made on the left side of the abdomen. They left only the heart in place, believing it to be the center of a person’s being and intelligence. The other organs were preserved separately, with the stomach, liver, lungs, and intestines placed in special boxes or jars today called canopic jars. These were buried with the mummy. In later mummies, the organs were treated, wrapped, and replaced within the body. Even so, unused canopic jars continued to be part of the burial ritual. Anubis, also called Anpu, ancient Egyptian god of the dead, represented by a jackal or the figure of a man with the head of a jackal. In the Early Dynastic period and the Old Kingdom, he enjoyed a preeminent (though not exclusive) position as lord of the dead, but he was later overshadowed by Osiris. Ancient Egypt was one of the greatest and most powerful civilizations in the history of the world. It lasted for over 3000 years from 3150 BC to 30 BC. The pharaohs of Egypt were often buried in giant pyramids or in secret tombs. They believed that they needed treasure to be buried with them to help them in the afterlife. As a result, archeologists have a lot of well preserved artifacts and tombs to examine in order to find out how the ancient Egyptians lived. RARE E. Cotterill Heavy Duty Padlock & KEY. Unpickable 1800’s. Plus 4 Other Keys

This is a rather special find. It is a large and heavy Victorian padlock made by E. They were mainly known for making highly secure safes but also made these as well. Very occasionally they become available but without a key which wouldn’t be of much use! Usually they are only seen in collections or museums. Dimensions – It weighs an impressive 965 g, about 2.1 lbs. It is 5 1/4 ” long closed, 6 ” open. It is 3 1/8 ” wide at its widest, 2 1/4 ” at its narrowest. The body is 7/8 ” thick and the hasp is 5/8 ” thick. Also included are 4 smaller keys and a’lost & found’ tag from a company in Newport, Monmouthshire all of which are on a heavy duty key ring. For those of you who, like us, are a little older you will remember that these companies set themselves up all over the country and if found you sent it back to the company and the gave you 5/- / 25 p. We hope that we have described it fully but if there is any other information you would like please just ask. Gothic style lettering on a dark sterling silver Christmas tree pin known as the Antique Alphabet Sampler arbor. The brooch features a stack of letter from A to Z. A fraction under 2-1/2. Accompanied by a scarce MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) Christmas tree pin with maybe a Native American at center? Since out of Boston, maybe it celebrates the bounty of the first Thanksgiving near Plymouth. Bonus is a Christmas tree pin made of an antique quilt. A thread spool is its base. Not sure how many they produced, just said it was made of an antique quilt. Buttons are its ornaments and the top features tied twine.
