RARE 1930s/ EARLY 40s ERA ANTIQUE NAVAJO CORN KACHINA with STAND NATIVE AMERICAN
RARE 1930s/ 40s ERA ANTIQUE NAVAJO CORN KACHINA w/ STAND NATIVE AMERICAN. This is a very rare find. This is an antique Navajo kachina hand-carved out of a cottonwood representing one of the Corn Kachina. This kachina has been dated to around the 1930s/ early 40s by Mark Bahti of Bahti Indian Arts of Tucson and Santa Fe, paperwork will be included. The paperwork from Mark Bahti constitutes a professional analysis of the kachina, tribe and materials. This rare kachina falls into the Navajo folk art category. That being said, it is an incredible piece. This antique Native American, Corn kachina stands approximately 9-1/2″ tall in the stand, approximately 9-1/4″ tall out of the stand, approximately 4″ wide across the body and approximately 3″ deep including the nose. The body area is approximately 1-1/2 deep. One of the hands is missing and one of the feet has been glued back together, please see photos. Bahti feels this kachina was painted with one of the original type of poster paints and that the green paint is a type of mineral paint. The ruff was constructed out of a very old washcloth, cotton yarn for the belt that appears to be homespun. He did not state what he thought the skirt material was. There are very old feathers inserted into the top of the head for hair, most of which have rubbed away or broken off over the years. This kachina has a few stains, some splits in the wood, scratches and some rub to it, but in spite of that, it is in remarkably good condition for a kachina that is nearly 100 years old. It was originally designed to be hung by the neck as traditional Hopi kachinas are, but I have included a stand for your convenience. It can be displayed either way. This unique kachina was carved out of cottonwood This rare kachina would be an outstanding addition to any Western or Native American collection! Rare Early Historic Antique Navajo Transitional Chief Blanket Hand Dyed Large
This is a large and very fine antique Navajo rug. It appears to be a Transitional era piece and the artistic design is phenomenal. It is incredibly heavy for its size and weighs a bit over 10 pounds. It is quite thick with a very tight weave. The wool all appears to be hand dyed and has the great looking variations in color from the dyes being hand dyed. It measures approximately 55″ x 84″. It has some wear and minor discoloration here and there from age and use but overall is a fantastic looking early Navajo blanket. We have added many photos to show design and condition well so please see photos and ask questions. FOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM! Antique Navajo handmade silver necklace c. This is a most unusual piece and a fine addition to your collection of early Navajo jewelry. The necklace is made of bench beads in pearl and elongated shapes. It is decorated with 4 squash blossoms. Take a look at the close-up images to see the file marks on the beads and blossoms–this piece was made entirely by hand. The unusual pendant is a figural design with stamped decoration and turquoise eyes. The clasp is a commercial jewelry clasp of a style most commonly in use from the late 19C through the 30s; it was not totally unusual for Navajo jewelry of this early period to utilize commercial jewelry findings. An outstanding antique example. Please view our other listings. Wearable length is about 2. Pendant is 2 by 1 1/4. Weight is 39.6g. This has a dark old patina that my mother left in place; Ill leave any cleaning up to the new owner. Larger items may be more. Antique Native American Rug 48x73 Rare Find. Early Navajo Textile. Authentic
This is a beautiful early Navajo textile. Decent condition considering the age. Vintage is always a plus. It looks to me like 4 ply weave but I’m not a professional. Measures 48″ X 73″. It has repairable damage like holes from moths and years of use but it doesn’t seem to effect the beauty. As you can see it looks good but it could use some TLC. Restoring it would bump up the value or leave it as is. The item “Antique Native American Rug 48×73 Rare Find. Early Navajo Textile. Authentic” is in sale since Monday, December 3, 2018.
