Rare 18th Century Early Meissen Antique German Porcelain Dove Pigeon Tureen
Posted by admin On September 4, 2023
Add threetreefrogs to favourites. EXCEPTIONALLY FINE AND RARE EARLY MEISSEN LIDDED SAUCE TUREEN. Presenting a magnificent 18th Century soft paste porcelain tureen and cover naturalistically modelled into the of a nesting dove / pigeon. This exceptional example was produced by the quality German makers, Meissen, circa mid to late 1700s. The beautifully modelled dove is seated upon a basket moulded base with applied shredded clay foliage trimming the top of the nest. This piece is wonderfully finished in naturalistic glazes. SIZE: This impressive piece stands approx 120mms tall, measures 195mms in length and 78mms in width. CONDITION: This piece is presented in very good antique condition with some exceptionally minor losses to the shredded clay foliage noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. There appears to be a minor old repair to one side of the birds tail which has been professionally done and incredibly hard to spot. We had to take a magnifyer to the piece and even then it was hard to detect. There is a minuscule fleabite sized nibble to the top of the crest upon the birds head and the tiniest rough spot to the tip of the birds beak. There is some internal staining which we have not attempted to bleach out or remove in any way and should be able to be lessened in the new owners preferred manner. Light overall surface crazing mentioned for accuracy. This authentic antique example has survived exceptionally well and presents spectacularly. MARKS: The unglazed base is beautifully marked with Meissen’s brushed blue crossed swords. Early Meissen examples such as this fine figural tureen are highly desirable and feature in top Museum collections. This stunning piece would make an outstanding addition to any early Meissen, quality antique porcelain or figural tureen collection! Shop Pottery & Ceramics. Meissen Porcelain Magpie Bird on Stump Rare large
Posted by admin On December 21, 2022
Meissen Magpie Bird on Stump Porcelain Large Art Deco. This is a handsome Meissen bird s perched on elaborate detailed grey tree trunk base with pastel green foliage. The Magpie is very lifelike, and finely modeled in a handsome pose, with a long raised erect tail. The bird has beautiful black and white plumage with a black face and coal black eyes, open beak with coral red tongue. On the undersides is the Meissen mark. The composition of the piece is exquisitely laid out in a natural setting. The coloration and glaze accentuates the beayty of the Magpie. Look carefully at photographs, for the molding on the wings, tail, feet and base branch… Details in the unique way that is the hallmark of Meissen porcelain figurines. It is finished in a shiny glaze and painted in vivid hues. The massive bird stands approximately 21 inches tall from base to top of tail on base of about 4 1/2” diameter. In very good condition with no damage that I have noticed. Meissen- Modelled originally by JJ Kaendler – The bird is marked underneath the base with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark and incised line below, and additional incised model mark 0f No. 62-Most probably very late 19th Century or early 20th century. The bird is from a private collection of birds- an antique entrepreneur of the 1940’s and 1950’s who amassed these porcelain figurines mostly in 1950’s- They are from the collection of my father John Hall Haardt- He carefully chose many fine Meissen, Worcester, Rosenthal’s. See my Mother’s Antique Magazine she colected years ago with Magpie and info. Meissen, near Dresden in Germany, started in 1710. The artistic influence of the designer J. Kändler and the painter J. Hoeroldt, formed the unique team that initiated the creation of delicate and fine wares, and Meissen gained a reputation for quality equal to that of the very finest Chinese porcelain in production at the time. This is a handsome rare Meissen bir. D naturally modeled and. Perched on an elaborate d. Etailed white tree trunk base with pastel green foliage. A wonderful addition for a serious collector.
