RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE TIGER MAPLE HARDWOOD LARGE WOODEN ROLLING PIN, with FINELY. [Fashioned from a single maple square board]. Early-mid 19th c Ame ri can antique primitive figured maple wood furniture & kitchen accessories. 18 ½” Length x 2 ¾” Height. An extraordinarily beautiful object and rare early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique decorative object in very well preserved overall antique condition, with only some drying fissures to the barrel of the tiger maple hardwood antique rolling pin, that have occurred naturally over time and which don’t constitute damage. The tiger maple, lathe-turned and hand carved rolling pin is an exceptional Ame ri can decorative accessory that was created here in New England between most likely the end of the Unit ed St ates’ Federal period of 1820 to the beginning of the Empire period in about 1845, and even possibly earlier. Often decorative trends, such as the styling used and the choice of diseased or figured maple hardwood, would still be used even after the peak of its popularity in the early 19th century. Needless to say, this object is close to, if not approaching 200 years in age and for it to have remained in this kind of well preserved overall antique condition, is testament to Yankee thriftiness and how nothing was ever discarded. A rare and simply magnificent early Ame ri can antique decorative accessory. God just isn’t dropping tiger maple rolling pins it seems out of the sky like raindrops anymore. Early-Mid 1800's Large American Tiger Maple Candle Storage Box, Rare
Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a gorgeous American hand made early-mid 1800’s tiger maple candle storage box. The body of the box is made of 3/4 thick, solid tiger maple wood with rich, mellow coloration and prominent graining. The box is a larger size than normally found and has a dovetailed construction with wide bordered chamfered sliding top with locking mechanism. The key hole has a brass edge and we do have a working key which may or may not be original to the box. The wide dovetails are set far apart which is generally a sign of older construction. Candle boxes are generally rectangular boxes with tight fitting sliding lids and were generally made from less expensive woods as they were made to be utilitarian storage boxes used to protect candles from rodents. This box was definitely made by a very talented wood worker possibly as a gift for a special person due to its construction details and use of a more desirable wood than normally used. Measures 15″ long, 8″ wide and 6 deep. Weighs 6.3 pounds. This unusual tiger maple box is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws reflecting only minor signs of normal wear. What an impressive Windsor chair with outstanding color! This square-back/rod back Windsor with its flared shield seat and its overall unrivaled features is listed as being rarely documented and with few examples found. A similar chair is pictured in Charles Santores, The Windsor Style in America Volumes I and II on page 247 of its New Discoveries section. Here the author reports, The number of never-before-published Windsor finds of exceptional quality and importance has compelled me to prepare this entire chapter on new discoveries. This chair is in good condition with no notable defects other than the expected scratches and nicks and overall wear. One stretcher pictured appears could benefit from being pushed deeper into the leg, but I havent attempted to do that.
