[Found untouched & covered with dust and silt in an early southern New Hampshire post and beam center chimney cape with attached barn]. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique New England primitive vinegar grain painted wooden furniture & decorative wooden accessories. 17 3/4″ Length x 11 3/4″ Height x. Without its original hinged lid but with exceptional, early corner large, hand-cut dovetailed joinery. Unfortunately, at some previous juncture, someone took a hand scraper or hand plane and removed some of the paint decoration on the dovetailed areas of both painted short sidewalls. The painted front sidewall remains largely intact but is now missing its original metal, keyed lid locking hardware. One of the handcrafted iron, looped pin hinges that would have held the lid in place at the rear is still present, as is one of the affixed side leather lifting/carrying handles. No attempt has been made to replace the lid with another or to’in-paint’ the areas of missing paint where a less-informed soul removed some of the original and now nearly 200 year-old paint decoration on its corners. The real story here though is with its vinegar grain painted exterior, with its exuberant, lovely, squiggly vertical brush strokes that resemble a mop dipped in green paint and dragged right and left down its sidewalls over an ochre background. Still with its original period paper wallpaper lining its interior and still largely intact, although with some minor to moderate staining in places. 100% original and untouched. An extraordinary, genuine, early to mid 19th century Ame ri can Folk Art artifact and example of early New England primitive painted furniture and paint decorated wooden accessories. It may not be 100% intact or perfect but it remains largely untouched and an honest, now nearly 200 year old New England primitive artifact. Almost as old as dirt. Found in southern New Hampshire. Fair to Good overall vintage condition. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Decorative Collectibles\Boxes, Jars & Tins”. The seller is “modsanctuary” and is located in this country: US. I believe this to be from the 1700’s. Just come off an Old farm in Lancaster county Pennsylvania. It looks good for what it is and it should still be in working order everything seems nice and sturdy. There is a little piece of the finial that has broke off as seen in my photos but overall it looks good and displays well for what it is. This item is in the category “Antiques\Primitives”. [Recently discovered in southern New Hampshire in an early post and beam farmhouse on what was once a large, working farm, with various barns & horse stalls]. Early 19th century Ame ri can folk art, New England primitive antique, hand decorated, painted, sewn heavy leather fire buckets. 12 ¼” Height x 8″ top Width x 6 ¼ Base. Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely wonderful and just recently discovered in southern New Hampshire, hand decorated, hand sewn heavy leather upright fire bucket, featuring gold gilt enamel paint over an emerald green painted field, with’No. 2′ hand painted along the top margin, signifying which firefighting pump or ladder truck it was associated with and belonged to. The date of its realization is hand painted along the lower margins’1826. There’s some slight to moderate gold gilt enamel loss only in this area contained within the banner. The heavy sewn leather seams are still incredibly intact and complete, with no thread loss. The leather sidewalls aren’t distorted or deformed. The bucket is now missing its original leather wrapped carrying handle, which had broken free of the leather side hoops. A beautiful, original, unadulterated antique piece of Ame ric ana. Found in southern New Hampshire. The fire bucket hasn’t been touched. It remains as it was when it was removed from the estate it was originally discovered in and to which it was associated with for many, many years. Thrilling and a summation of why those of us who do this, do this. An absolutely thrilling and exhilarating discovery. Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
