An exceptionally rare 18th Century Gold and Tortoiseshell Mounted Scissor Case, circa 1700- 1740, the front and back decorated with pique point work of flowers, laurels and butterflies, the sides with a double leaf border, the hinged lid opening to reveal a recess, a pair of later steel scissors that are present. This would have been owned by an exceptionally wealthy and probably important person of their day, this would have cost a small fortune back around the early 1700s. A piece that really should be in a museum. Without a doubt the most exquisite early item I have ever had the pleasure of owning, the damage can be seen in the photos, however, the rarity and beauty of the workmanship override this in my opinion. The lower half has damage to one edge (see last photo), some damage to just below the reverse of the hinge section missing. Small areas of gold loss. The button release works perfectly, small loss of shell by the button, and the inner frame is gold lined. This really is a museum piece.
