Scarlet fought on divers Occasions… Printed for James Hodges, at the Looking -Glass, at London-Bridge – around 1740? Or earlier – 94 pages, title-page with two woodcut ills. Leather binding – 15 x 9 cm – this edition contains the early copy known of the song of ” Robin Hood and the Ranger”. First pages a bit frayed. Front cover loose, but can be easily fixed. Spine a bit damaged. Otherwise solid and in very acceptable antiquarian condition. Some handwriting of previous owner on back of frontcover. The garlands added nothing to the substance of the legend but ensured that it continued after the decline of the single broadside ballad…. MORE PICTURES AND INFORMATION CAN BE PROVIDED. I bought it from Bernard Gulley in Portobello over 20 years ago. I was told it was a tinderbox, and that the darkened wood in the small compartment was where the combustion took place. I cant verify this but it sounds plausible. It measures 8 inches wide by 2 inches high by 1.75 inches deep. Its in wonderful original continued and a lovely thing to own. We are downsizing and I m saying farewell to some old friends. I paid a lot for it 20 years ago, Im afraid.
