Offered for sale is this stunning find. In its completely original untouched as found condition. Made of wood, which was ebonised and which still remains. Original tapetry top which look like it was some sort of velvet? Which has now worn and become threadbare in place as shown with use over many many years. No idea of the exact age of this beautiful old prayer stool, but I have spoken to a couple of experts and they said that they would date c 1800. It has wooden dowels to 2 sides instead of screws and the other side has two screws which must have been replaced sometime later. I looked up some information about dowels/pegs being used in furniture and it advised that Antique furniture construction, up to teh early 1700s was mainly built using pegged construction, but I will leave it to you experts out there to decide and inform. Measuring approx 12″ inches wide by 8.5/9″ tall by 8 deep. Please look carefully at photos as this forms part of the overall description. I have tried to take accurate photos that show the box as true as possible- please bare in mind that screen settings and different devices may show differently. He was in Korea from the late1800s until about 1920, according to his grandson, Arthur Jr. I have his letter envelope sent to Choson, pyungyang from US, but I cannot find it now.
