Rare Early 19th Century AMERICAN Primitive Carved Wood & Painted WASH BOARD

For sale is a very early 19th century American carved wood wash board. This is a very primitive early design, likely made around the time the wash board was invented in the 1830s. It’s made from a single piece of hardwood and has hand carved grooves on both sides. Also features a hand painted flower design on the top. You can tell by the wear along the top edge of the wood, the paint was already there before the wear. The wash board has a beautiful patina from use over nearly 200 years! The grooves have partly worn down, especially in the middle, and have attained a smooth finish. This is from many years of use scrubbing clothes. The wash board measures 54cm long by 12cm wide (21″ x 4 3/4″). This is a very rare piece of American washing history! There are very few wash boards of this age left in existence, especially in this condition. It’s a museum quality piece, you won’t be disappointed. We use Australia Post and only charge the actual cost of sending. All fragile items will be packed with void fill and bubble wrap in a box. Rare Early Robert Mouseman Thompson Cheese Board With Mouse On The Board Vintage

EARLY ROBERT MOUSEMAN CHEESE BOARD WITH SIGNATURE MOUSE ON THE BOARD c1950. An early Robert Mouseman Thompson cheese board with the signature mouse placed on the board. Mouseman cheese boards with the mouse on the board were only produced up until 1960, after this date the mouse was repositioned onto the handle to provide more strength. It is in used condition and has visible signs of use including knife marks on top of the board, the signature mouse has also suffered under the knife with very little tail left (please see pictures). It is a medium oak colour and measures 37cms long and 118cms wide. A good early piece of Mouseman, approximately 70 years old. It will be very carefully packaged and sent tracked and signed. I have quite a few Mouseman pieces for sale, including a burr oak stool, a burr oak chair, and an arm chair – please see my other items. Rare antique MYSTIFYING ORACLE PLANCHETTE for early/original WILLIAM FULD OUIJA BOARDS, patent # 56,001; often missing/separated from the old boards; this one is missing the glass. Circa the 1940’s at the latest (when the stopped making them out of wood and began to use composition board). Condition: G+ (the pressed wood is separating at the top edge and right edge, the finish is mostly worn off; the feet are missing). We are always happy to combine multiple items. Rare Aboriginal Painted Message Board Eastern Kimberley WithA Early 1900’s

Collected in the first half of the twentieth century this striking board comes from the Eastern Kimberley and would have belonged to the Gija People. A similar group of boards were collected by Tom McCourt and are attributed to the Gidji sic and are documented in his book – Aboriginal Artefacts page 54 and 55. I owned and handled several of Tom McCourts boards and this one has very similar paintwork with the exception that the carving underneath on this example is a simple diamond outline to one side. The board shows great signs of use and has an encrusted surface and dry patina. It measures 78cm x 14.5cm. The game features a great action scene on its cover and on the game board. The heavy duty game board folds open to reveal a large playing surface. It appears to have come with cards, which are not with this game. The box of the game has a good deal of wear with loss of some of the aprons, and 1 piece of the apron loose. Rare Tall African Islamic Teaching Board – TANZANIA – Early to Mid 20th Century. Another African artifact from my personal collection. Tall and unusual example of a teaching board from Zanzibar, off the coast of Tanzania. The population in this area is 99% Islamic. I have never seen one with the abstract design of the head at the top and legs depicted at the bottom. Nice patina and wear from use. Probably used by a teacher, due to size. Custom black painted steel stand holds piece firmly upright. Last photo shows a similar, newer example in the British Museum.
