Rare! Complete! Antique 18th C Brass Tinder Box Striker Flint Early American
For sale is a RARE early American antique tinder box with its complete assembly of fire starting tools (a flint rock, a iron striker, and some tinder fiber). The box was hand hammered and formed with brass by highly skilled metal smith in the 1700s. This tinder box is a essential tool carried by colonial American pioneers to kindle fire in the wilderness and to start a fire for a primitive hearth. This particular box is in octagon form with domed sides. It measures approximately 2.5″ by 2″, 1.25 thick. The lid snaps shut properly with all content inside. Nice original wrought iron lock mechanism can be observed in the interior. The hinge is sturdy. The Initials “J B” are lightly scratched on the lid. Overall, a rare example of colonial American pioneer’s tinder box that should not be passed by any serious collectors of early Americana /colonial tools/ wrought iron antiquities. Some imperfection but certainly authentic! Feel free to check out my other antique and collectible listings.

Ultra Rare Amber 2 Bun Geisha Lady Cambridge Glass American History Depression Glass. This is an ultra rare large heavy Amber clear 2 Bun Geisha made by the Cambridge Glass company in the United States. This Geisha is absolutely gorgeous in this condition, Cambridge Glass at its best. The black stand in some of the photos was for display only and is not for sale, but you can get a stand for yourself if you like. The figurine is a Geisha with 2 Buns in her hair one on each side. She is holding what looks like a flower in her left hand and another flower on her right arm. The Geisha is 10 inches. The base of the Geisha is. 2 & 3/4 inches. The figurine is very heavy and solid. The Geisha is in very good condition with no cracks or chips, but there is a tiny fissure in the bottom, which I have mention for accuracy. The Geisha is very scarce and very hard to find in any colour, you do not see them on auctions anymore. This rare Geisha has been in my collection for a long time, but now some one else can enjoy this lovely amber figurine in their collection. Have a look at all the photos to see the lovely colour and condition. I know what it is like to get broken items and feel bitterly disappointed when they are not wrapped properly. I will double box this lovely amber clear Geisha Figurine. To protect it, and make sure you get it in the same beautiful condition it is in now.

Tall beautiful AND fancy, deep SUN COLORED AMETHYST (SCA) antique CUP or GLASS. This is NOT a reproduction but an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE B lown I nto M old glass, dating back to the 1800’s. Che ck out the design, pattern, that it was molded in = Early American Pattern Glass. And also the astrological / sunburst pattern on the base. Condition : It is in SPARKLING CLEAN condition. It may have some wear from use and/or age but it looks to be in just about perfection condition. NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. Age : An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE blown-glass vessel, ca. This little vessel has all of the similarities and patterns of a normal size cup except this one comes in an extremely miniature size, being just over one inch tall. It possibly was part of an antique doll tea set but the detail and work that went into it seems like it was designed for a much more sophisticated use, like for sipping fine liqueur out of. This purple color is the result of having manganese in the glass. Manganese is a mineral, a rock, that was mined, crushed, and pulverized into a powder, then added to vats of molten liquid glass, and acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the natural aqua-tinted glass into a pure crystal clear colorless glass. Then it was blown into a mold to create a vessel. But when exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, it triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese starts to oxidize and slowly turns a lavender or amethyst color. The end result is what collectors refer to as SCA (Sun Colored Amethyst) glass. The longer it is in the sun the purpler it becomes. This little shot glass was exposed to some concentrated UV rays which had the same affect as the sun, but a lot faster. It has not been colored, stained, or altered. No matter how a glass item has turned purple (direct sunlight or UV rays in controlled environment) they all turn the same purple color as it is the same chemical reaction taking place. The only difference is the time it took to turn purple. What is important is that an item is old enough to turn purple as with few exceptions, only clear glass from before 1915 have manganese in them and will turn SCA. After this, with the start of WWI, manganese was no longer available as foreign imports decreased and domestic resources turned towards the war effort. Selenium sulphate then replaced manganese as a glass de-colorizer and when exposed to UV rays, it turns a yellow / straw color, and a dark burnt amber color. Generally speaking NO MORE purple glass after 1915! Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make this a great looking little antique glass, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique. In summary, look at the design, thick, heavy-glass, and just beautiful in the deep lavender color, check it out! SCARCE EARLY to MID 20TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE HAND CARVED CHESTNUT WOODEN ROPE BED TIGHTENER, with 2-PIECE CONSTRUCTION, FEATURING DOWELED. HANDLED & SPOKED, TOOTHED TURNIN G. END & ROPE CLASP. [2-piece construction with doweled handle removable from main wooden shaft]. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique New England hand carved chestnut wood bet tighteners. 17 1/2″ Height x 13 1/2″ Width (handle). Body: 2″ Width x 2 1/4″ Depth. Bottom spoked end: 3″ Height x 3/4″ gap Width. Offered for your review and consideration is this early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique primitive hand carved chestnut rope bed tightener or bed screw turn. It was recently discovered here in southern New Hampshire during an estate clean-out of an early residence with an attached barn and carriage sheds. It is a true New England primitive hand tool, completely fashioned by hand and made from local chestnut wood, once prevalent in the northeast and found all over New England before it suffered blight. The rope bed turn screw is comprised of two parts, the carved chestnut, sturdy doweled handle which inserts into the main, spoked end chestnut shaft. The’T’ shaped design would allow the user to insert the key onto the looped rope in the rope bed’s side board and turn it, tightening it to give better support to the goose feather down or straw filled linen mattresses of that era. The beds would have carved wood nuts to hold them into the newly tightened position. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. This item is in the category “Antiques\Primitives”. RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE TIGER MAPLE HARDWOOD LARGE WOODEN ROLLING PIN, with FINELY. [Fashioned from a single maple square board]. Early-mid 19th c Ame ri can antique primitive figured maple wood furniture & kitchen accessories. 18 ½” Length x 2 ¾” Height. An extraordinarily beautiful object and rare early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique decorative object in very well preserved overall antique condition, with only some drying fissures to the barrel of the tiger maple hardwood antique rolling pin, that have occurred naturally over time and which don’t constitute damage. The tiger maple, lathe-turned and hand carved rolling pin is an exceptional Ame ri can decorative accessory that was created here in New England between most likely the end of the Unit ed St ates’ Federal period of 1820 to the beginning of the Empire period in about 1845, and even possibly earlier. Often decorative trends, such as the styling used and the choice of diseased or figured maple hardwood, would still be used even after the peak of its popularity in the early 19th century. Needless to say, this object is close to, if not approaching 200 years in age and for it to have remained in this kind of well preserved overall antique condition, is testament to Yankee thriftiness and how nothing was ever discarded. A rare and simply magnificent early Ame ri can antique decorative accessory. God just isn’t dropping tiger maple rolling pins it seems out of the sky like raindrops anymore.
