RARE LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE CHINESE HAND CARVED & HAND PAINTED WOODEN BATTLE HORSE with LONG SADDLE on RAISED PEDESTAL BASE. Late 19th to early 20th century Qing Dynasty hand carved & hand painted wood sculpture. 11 3/4″ Height x 3″ Depth x 9 1/2 Width. 100% untouched and undisturbed. Offered for your review and consideration is this simply wonderful, estate fresh and absolutely uncompromised late 19th to early 20th century Chinese antique polychrome, wood-carved standing horse figure on a raised pedestal base. The figure is completely hand carved and hand painted with charcoal black, deep reddish burnt sienna and gold enamel paint. The figure is from the imperial Qing Dynasty and showcases a Chinese war or battle horse, with front coiled satchel used to carry possibly ammunition, black powder or lead balls, if the rider was armed with a musket. The large leather saddle, possibly a ceremonial one, has long, highly decorative side protection plates and has a sculpted form, allowing the rider to sit snugly and free up his arms holding a bow and arrow or even possibly a musket. The entire horse figure stands on attention poised atop a four ringed raised, pedestal platform and is banded with fluctuating red and black stripes of color. The entire figure is painted by hand with the base plate remaining unpainted. It was carved from a single wood block. Fantastic original paint and original surfaces. There’s some minor to moderate paint loss in places on the horse figure and on the raised pedestal platform base. No attempt has been made to’in-paint’ or to remediate these episodes of paint loss. It remains, undusted, unrinsed and untouched. It’s the same as when it was taken from the Massachusetts estate from where it was first discovered. An extraordinary late 19th to early 20th century Chinese antique artifact, if only because it remains completely unbastardized and left alone. Beautiful Chinese folk art wood carving and quick, gestural, kinetic enamel paint decoration, make this particular Chinese polychrome carved wooden war horse figure, a truly lost gem. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian Antiques\China\Figurines & Statues”. The seller is “modsanctuary” and is located in this country: US. RARE LATE 19TH to EARLY 20TH CENTURY EDWARDIAN ANTIQUE E N G L I S H TROPICAL BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD WALKING STICK/CANE, with HIGHLY DECORATIVE, ORNATE, BAS-RELIEF, FLORAL MOTIF STAMPED STERLING SILVER HANDLE CAP & INCISED STERLING SILVER, ORIGINAL FERRULE & HEEL. Late 19th to early 20th century E n g l i s h antique highly decorative & ornate gentlemen’s walking sticks & cans. 37 14″ Height x 1 12″ Width (top). Weight: 13.7 oz. For once stepping out in London in high style! This late 19th-early 20th century Edwardian antique tropical Brazilian rosewood shaft and highly decorative, pressed, stamped, bas-relief, floral motif sterling silver handle cap, has its original incised line, sterling silver ferrule and heel. This was clearly not made for folks from the’other side of the tracks’ but rather for the much smaller in number and well-heeled, wealthy elite, representing the social antagonists in Dickensian and then Edwardian London. Putting discussions of class and socio-economic class antagonisms aside, this was a rosewood and sterling silver walking stick that was meant to be at once ostentatious and an obvious social signal to those watching, of elevated social and economic class position. The Brazilian tropical rosewood, hardwood shaft is without breaks, deep abrasions, flea-bites, noticeable dings or dents. The decorative, ornate sterling silver handle cap has some minor, old dents and dings but is still very beautiful and intact, not suffering from tears, creases, repairs (old or new) or depreciating deformities. Incredibly decorative, ornate and entirely patrician. You get the picture. Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
