Very Rare 9000 BC (Approx) Flint Spearhead By Early Homo Sapiens Museum Quality
Flint Spearhead Formed By Early Homo Sapiens Museum Quality. Spearhead formed of flint formed by early modern man (Homo Sapiens) between 11000 years ago. Some of these very rare finely made arrow and spearheads, such as this example, have been found in a few sites as old as 11,000 years, usually associated with rare semi-intact burial sites from this period of the Stone Age, i. Grave-Goods’ or as offerings to some deity in order to attain good hunting in that particular area they were in. This is an exceptionally rare’offering’ or grave item, which never appears to have been used, as such is extremely sort after, very rare and is of Museum quality as a near perfect example of a flint spearhead from the early establishment of our ancient ancestors, Homo Sapiens. Size: Length is 105mm and Width is 40mm, being 35g. Originally found as part of an official and authorised archaeological dig, a grave item thought to be an offering to ensure good hunting for the dead in his’after-life’. Location of the’dig’ was on the border between the Netherlands & Germany. Formed part of a very large private collection; previously bought by Dolf Aaij, a highly respected collector/expert of such items, acquiring it from a gallery of ancient art in Amsterdam, 2005. How They Made Such Beautiful Spearheads. The prehistoric craftsmen removed small pieces of rock or flakes from the core using a technique called percussion flaking. This involved striking a portion of the core with a stone hammer. To make more elaborate tools such as arrow heads or spear points, the tool-maker had to do additional shaping and thinning. When the approximate shape was obtained, the final stage of thinning the point and sharpening the edges was accomplished by another technique known as pressure flaking. Here, small and thin flakes were pushed off the edges of the tool with an antler or bone punch. This technique required both skill and physical strength. The pictures do not do it justice at all, but are important to show the condition. Please be patient, we promise to get your item to you as soon as humanly possible. I cannot guarantee when this will be but it will be as soon as we can under the current circumstances & restrictions. RARE Antique EARLY 19th C TIN Punch TINSMITH Decorated SPICE BOX Folk Art
RARE Antique PA GERMAN Early 19th C TIN Punch Decorated SPICE BOX Folk Art- This is a beautifully crafted early tinware spice box- these early boxes are very hard to find. There are some very nice decorative elements such as the raised lines around the box, really nicely made loop pull and the handmade hinge attachments which attach the lid to the bottom of the box, as well as the wonderfully done punch decorated design on the lid of the box and the nicely done solder work. We have found very few similar to this one in over 30 years of collecting. It has excellent naturally darkened patina and is in good to very good antique condition- it shows the natural oxidation of tin, and the solder is is good condition. It is hard to find this type of untouched/uncleaned original aged surface patina. The spice box measures approximately 3.5 in height to to top of lid. It is approx 7″ wide and approx 4.75″ in depth. View my other auctions for additional fine period items. This will make a nice addition to your Antique Tinware or Decorative Accessories collection.. Rare Antique (1920s) Pink Queen Anne English Bone China Gold Gilded Tea Set
Fantastic very rare pink colour antique (1920s) Queen Anne English fine bone china gold gilded twelve piece tea set in lovely condition generally without any chips or cracks or crazing other than a non malignant hairline crack in a single cup as shown in the last photograph attached. A superb set that has been in my family from the outset and I hope to find it a good home. The set is very generously gold gilded and despite its age it is in impeccable condition without any wear to the gold gilding. The photos are an accurate description. Queen Anne was one of the trade names of Shore & Coggins Limited who produced china ware in their Edensor Works, New Street and the High Street Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The firm dates back to 1887 when it was known as J. In 1905 a new partnership was formed with Shore, Coggins & Holt, this partnership survived 5 years until 1910 when John William Holt left and Shore & Coggins Limited was formed. (who were aquirinf a number of other pottery businesses). The Wild group expanded the business and intriduced the’Bell China’ trade name. Queen Anne’ and’Princess Anne’ trade names were introduced after the Second World War. In 1966 there was reorganisation of the Wild subsidiary companies (now under the control of Allied English Potteries) which included the closure of the works of Chapmans (Longton) Ltd and Shore & Coggins Ltd. The’Queen Anne’ trade name introduced around 1950 was used until the closure of the Edensor Works in 1966. The trade name was retained by Allied English Potteries Ltd and was used by Ridgway Potteries and was still in use by Royal Doulton in 1981.
